The Line That Holds the Heart
Verdura's Wrapped Heart turns a familiar emblem into a study of tension, volume, and the authority of a drawn line.

A heart is among jewellery's most legible symbols. Verdura made it strange again by binding its rounded surface with a line that feels at once decorative and structural.
Fulco di Verdura repeatedly treated the jewel as a small piece of sculpture. In the Wrapped Heart, the central volume is not left to communicate sentiment alone: a contrasting band crosses it, interrupting symmetry and giving the object direction.
The design belongs to Verdura's broader practice of translating heraldry, rope, shells, and art-historical motifs into jewels with emphatic volume. Its effect depends on the relationship between outline and surface, not on gemstone quantity.
Versions and later interpretations should be dated with care. Maker's marks, construction, archive references, materials, and documented provenance all matter when moving from recognition of a design to attribution of a specific object.
